The Spooky Season Flower Shadowbox

Dark Florals & Foil – A Moody Take on Beauty in Bloom

Ready for that Spooky Time of Year

The frame features hand-layered paper flowers in bold, rich colors—accented with metallic purple foil flourishes and tiny skull motifs that nod to the 3D printed Sugar Skull.

Each flower is cut, shaped, and inked by hand. This one will be part of the front layer—deep navy petals with a textured center that adds real dimension.

Trying something new

I used Distress Spritz to give some of the paper an aged, iridescent finish. It catches the light just enough to feel otherworldly.

Here’s a look at the layout test before gluing everything into place. I always stage the design before final assembly to make sure every petal and color feels balanced.

Getting closer. I added a deep black rose to the center for contrast—and to anchor the entire piece with a touch of drama.

Working with Hot Foil again on this one, adding some purple skulls and flourishes to the wooden frame.

The final part of this frame is a 3D printed Sugar Skull in silk filament to compliment the purple foil and the purples in the flowers.

These will be limited as they take quite sometime to make.
